Common faults we investigate
- RCDs, RCBOs or circuit breakers that keep tripping
- Lights, sockets or appliances losing power
- Intermittent faults affected by weather or use
- Damaged switches, sockets and accessories
- Suspected problems following alterations or water ingress
How fault finding works
We begin with the symptoms and circumstances: when the issue started, what was operating and whether anything recently changed. Inspection and testing then narrow the problem to a circuit, section or item. This avoids replacing parts without evidence.
Some faults are found quickly; intermittent or concealed problems can require staged investigation. If more time or intrusive access is needed, we explain the findings and options before proceeding.
What to do before calling
Note which protective device operates and what was in use at the time. Photographs of the consumer unit can help. Do not repeatedly reset a device that will not remain on, and do not remove covers or attempt live testing.
Immediate danger
If there is smoke, fire, visible arcing, a burning smell or suspected electric shock, move away from danger and contact the appropriate emergency service. This website is not emergency safety advice.
Need an electrician to diagnose a fault?
Call with the Holt property address, symptoms and any useful photographs. Attendance depends on current availability and the nature of the issue.
